UEN Field for Gravity Forms

UEN Field for Gravity Forms brings a field for the Unique Entity Number (UEN) from Singapore into Gravity Forms, the form plugin for WordPress. The field checks on your own server on submission whether the identifier matches one of the three official formats of the UEN, and so catches incorrectly formed identifiers before they end up in your data.

The UEN is the identifier that companies and other entities in Singapore use when dealing with government agencies. If you want, the field also asks the directory of the corporate regulator ACRA on data.gov.sg whether the UEN has been issued.

Who it is for

Who benefits.

The field is for forms in which business customers or suppliers from Singapore enter their details, for example for billing addresses or for onboarding new suppliers. It is also for developers who need a UEN in the settings of their own plugin.

For you, this means: an identifier that does not match any of the three official formats is caught the moment the form is submitted, not when you start working with the data. What gets saved is in the correct form. That is a reliable basis for customer data, invoices and e-invoices, meaning invoices as structured files that software can read.

Two stages work together. The check on your server always runs, the lookup after it only if you switch it on.

What the field does for you

  • You find the field UEN in the form editor in the field group e-Invoicing Fields and add it to your form like any other field.
  • It checks every identifier on your server. It must match one of the three official formats of the UEN.
  • If you want, it also confirms the UEN with the ACRA authority. That way you know the UEN is not just correctly formed but actually issued. You do not need a key for this. Alternatively, the lookup runs through your invoicePress account.
  • If you write your own plugins, you get the same check as a field type for their settings pages. You can use the field outside a form, too, without rebuilding the rules yourself.

What it does not do

  • It does not check a check digit. A check digit is a digit calculated from the other characters that reveals typos. No such check digit has been officially published for the UEN. So only the online check shows whether an identifier has really been issued.
  • It does not fill in other fields of the form. It does not copy the name or address from the register.
  • It does not store the responses from data.gov.sg.
  • It does not make your form depend on data.gov.sg. If data.gov.sg is unreachable at the moment, your customer can still submit the form.

How it works

From entry to saved record

1 · Entry

3 · Optional: ACRA

4 · Saved
with a checked identifier
How the field checks an entry on submission: first on your server, then, if you want, with ACRA, and after that the entry is saved.
