LEI Field for Gravity Forms

LEI Field for Gravity Forms brings a field for the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) into Gravity Forms, the form plugin for WordPress. The field checks the identifier against its two check digits on your own server on submission and so catches typos before the identifier ends up in your data. A check digit is a digit calculated from the other characters that reveals typos.

The LEI is a worldwide identifier for companies and other legal entities, and each LEI is issued only once. It has 20 characters. In the ISO 6523 identifier list, an international list of identifier types for organizations, it has the scheme 0199. If you want, the field also asks the public GLEIF register whether the LEI has been issued. GLEIF is the foundation that runs the worldwide LEI register.

Who it is for

Who benefits.

The field is for forms in which business customers, suppliers or contract partners provide their LEI, for example in the financial sector or when onboarding new suppliers. It is also for developers who need a validated LEI in the settings of their own plugin.

The benefit for you is clean data. Typos and wrong identifiers are caught on submission, so your entries contain only identifiers in the correct form. Your customer data, your invoices and your e-invoices (invoices as structured files that software can read) can rely on that.

The table shows the two stages of the check. The first always runs, the second you add when you need it.

What the field does for you

  • You find the field LEI in the form editor in the field group e-Invoicing Fields and add it to your form like any other field.
  • It checks every identifier on your server. It must have exactly 20 characters: 18 letters or digits and two check digits according to ISO 7064 (modulo 97).
  • If you want, it also confirms the LEI in the GLEIF register. This confirms that the LEI is not only correctly formed but actually issued. You do not need a key for this. Alternatively, the lookup runs through your invoicePress account.
  • Developers get the same check as a field type for the settings pages of their own plugins. They can use the field outside a form, too, and do not have to rebuild the rules themselves.
  • It works in English, German and French.

What it does not do

  • It does not fill in other fields of the form. It does not copy the name or address from the register.
  • It does not distinguish between active and lapsed LEIs. An LEI whose registration has not been renewed remains in the register and therefore counts as confirmed.
  • It does not store the responses from GLEIF.
  • It does not make your form depend on the register. If the register is unreachable at the moment, your customer can still submit the form.
