ISO6523 ICD Field for Gravity Forms

ISO6523 ICD Field for Gravity Forms brings a field for an organization identifier according to ISO 6523 into Gravity Forms, the form plugin for WordPress. ISO 6523 is the list of identifier types that an e-invoice uses to identify the seller and the buyer. An e-invoice is an invoice as a structured XML file that software can read. The field checks every identifier on your own server on submission, following the rules of its type, and so catches incorrectly formed identifiers before they end up in your data.

Each identifier type, also called a scheme, has a four-digit code, the ICD. For example, code 0088 stands for the GLN and code 0199 for the LEI. In the form editor you choose the scheme for each field. This choice determines the allowed length and the allowed characters and, where the method is known and documented, also the check digit.

Who it is for

Who benefits.

The field is for forms that collect an identifier for the e-invoice, for example the GLN of a delivery location, a buyer’s identifier for the Peppol network or a national company number. Peppol is a European network for exchanging e-invoices between companies and public authorities. It is also for developers who need such an identifier in the settings of their own plugin.

You gain two things. Incorrectly formed identifiers are caught as soon as the form is submitted, not later in your data. And your entries contain only identifiers in the correct form, a reliable basis for your invoices and e-invoices.

What the field does for you

  • You find the field ISO 6523 ICD in the form editor in the field group e-Invoicing Fields and add it to your form like any other field.
  • For each field you choose from the 214 schemes of the ICD code list in version 5. A code list is a defined list of allowed values. So every identifier type on this list is available to you.
  • For 31 schemes it checks the documented format, and for 15 of them it insists on the correct check digit. These include GLN, LEI, SIREN, SIRET, the Australian ABN, the Czech and the Slovak IČO, the Swiss UID, the company numbers from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Belgium and the Italian Partita IVA.
  • For all other schemes and for the choice Any scheme it accepts an identifier of limited length.
  • While your customer types, it removes spaces and the separators of the scheme and converts letters to capitals. That way every identifier appears in your data in the same notation.
  • If you write your own plugins, you get the same check as a field type for their settings pages. You can use the field outside a form, too, without rebuilding the rules yourself.

What it does not do

  • It does not query any register. Whether an identifier has really been issued is checked by the country fields of this series, such as the SIRET field or the LEI field.
  • Your customer cannot choose the scheme. You set it in the editor for each field. For a form with identifiers from different schemes, choose Any scheme.
  • It does not store the scheme together with the identifier in the entry. Only the identifier is stored.
  • It has no settings page of its own.

How it works

From entry to saved record

1 · Set the scheme
you choose it in the editor
2 · Entry
your customer types the identifier
3 · Check on your server
length, characters, check digit where known
4 · Saved
with a checked identifier
How the field checks an identifier: you set the scheme, your customer enters the identifier, your server checks it on submission, and after that the entry is saved.
